What are Error Tasks?

Error Tasks are a specific type of task in Lumos that are automatically created when an integration action fails. These tasks help ensure that workflows are paused and brought to the attention of the right team member so that issues can be addressed quickly and accurately.

How Error Tasks Work

Whenever Lumos attempts to perform an integration action (such as provisioning or deprovisioning access) and that action fails, Lumos does the following:
  1. Pause the active workflow
  2. Generate an Error Task that includes details of the failure
  3. Assign the task to the appropriate application admin
  4. Resume the workflow once the issue is resolved and the task is marked as complete
This ensures you maintain control and visibility over any integration errors that could affect user access.

Why Error Tasks Are Important

Integrations can fail for many reasons that are outside of Lumos’ control. Common examples include:
  • A third-party API is down or unresponsive
  • An action is not allowed (e.g. assigning a license when none are available)
  • The integration’s access token or permissions are invalid (e.g. admin permissions have been revoked)
Error Tasks help catch these issues early and route them to the right person so that access workflows are not silently blocked or missed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When are Error Tasks generated?
A: An Error Task is created any time an external integration action (like provisioning access via Okta or transferring data from Zoom) fails due to an API or permission-related error.
Q: Who are Error Tasks assigned to?
A: Error Tasks are automatically assigned to the application admins for the integration that encountered the issue. For example:
  • If a “Transfer Zoom Data” action fails, the Error Task goes to your Zoom app admins
  • If an “Add to Okta Group” action fails, the Error Task is sent to your Okta app admins
Q: What happens after I resolve an Error Task?
A: Once the task is completed and marked as resolved, Lumos will automatically resume the workflow from where it left off.
Q: Can I see what caused the error?
A: Yes. Each Error Task includes a detailed error message that describes what failed and, where possible, suggested steps to fix it.
