# AppStore Testing Guide: Pre-Launch

<Info>
  Part of Lumos Launchpad: [AppStore](/launchpad/appstore), step 4.
</Info>

**Audience:** Lumos Admins, IT Project Owners, and IT Owners\
**Purpose:** Run through this testing script before you send launch communications for your AppStore. You can share further context below with any IT partners you need to help you test out the workflows.

<Note>
  This guide is a template. Before you share it with testers, replace the placeholder app lists in Case I and Case II with the apps you've chosen for testing, so testers don't request apps outside the testing group.
</Note>

**IT Partners: AppStore Context Comms**

## Background

Your company purchased Lumos and is looking to roll out the Lumos AppStore soon.

The Lumos AppStore will make our employees more productive by giving everyone a single app catalog to use for finding and requesting approved software.

**App requests in Lumos are automated via Slack and eliminate the need for IT tickets.**

As an IT admin or service desk employee, it’s important that you understand what Lumos is and how it works so that you can answer questions from employees when they use the AppStore.

## What do you need from me?

*We need your help testing the AppStore.*

Over the next 2 weeks, please read this document and complete the tests in the Test Cases section. **Testing should take less than 30 minutes** and will help us collect valuable feedback.

## What is the Lumos AppStore?

The [Lumos AppStore](https://www.lumos.com/appstore) will give employees a single catalog they can use to request access to approved software that they need for their job.

Requests can be submitted through Lumos or Slack.

To see the request workflow in action, check out the short articles below.

## How does the AppStore manage approvals?

If an app has an approver in Lumos, app requests are immediately sent to the approver through email and Slack after they’re submitted.

As an approver, you can approve app requests right from Slack. **This simplifies the approval process and reduces the time needed to get approvals.**

To see the approval process in action, check out the article below.

## Run through the test cases

### Case I: Request an app for yourself in the AppStore

Most requests will be like this, so familiarize yourself with this flow. Follow the steps below to run this test at least once.

**Please follow the instructions so that you’re requesting apps from our pre-approved list. If you choose an app not in the list below, you may notify people who aren’t in this testing group.**

1. [Log into Lumos](https://app.lumosidentity.com/)
2. [Go to the AppStore](https://app.lumosidentity.com/app_store)
3. Browse the app catalog and click the “Request Access” button for any of the following app tiles:

   1. *\[Replace with the apps you want to test]*
4. Leave “Request For” assigned to yourself.
5. Fill out the rest of the required fields.
6. Enter the test comment “Testing the Lumos AppStore” in “Business Justification/Comments”.
7. Click “Confirm Request”.

After submitting your request, you’ll see email or Slack notifications, or both. If you need a visual guide, please follow [this article](/kb/quick_start_guide/appstore-1/appstore_explainers_for_new_employees_new_to_appstore/requesting-access-to-an-app).

Every time there’s an update (e.g. your request is approved, etc.), you’ll get notifications automatically.

Review the notification content to understand what employees will see.

### Case II: Request an app for yourself from Slack

Also request an app from Slack.

The Lumos “/appstore” Slack command lets employees request an app as fast as possible.

1. Log into Slack
2. Type /appstore or /request anywhere in Slack and hit Return/Enter to bring up the request menu
3. Type any of the following app names in the “Which App Do You Need?” box:

   1. *\[Replace with the apps you want to test]*
4. Leave “Request For” assigned to yourself.
5. Fill out the rest of the required fields.
6. Enter the test comment “Testing the Lumos AppStore” in “Business Justification/Comments”.
7. Click “Request Access”.

Notifications here are delivered the same way they are for a request made in the AppStore.

### Case III: Request an app for someone else

Repeat the process from Case I or Case II, but change “Request For” to the name/email of one of your colleagues on the IT admin or service desk team.

This shows you the experience for people who request apps for others.

## Providing feedback

After you’ve completed your testing, please provide feedback on the experience.

## FAQ

### Can you change the level of access being requested?

Yes. If you click the “Edit” button in Slack, or you click on the approval request in Lumos, you can change the groups to which the user is being added after approval.

Do this if someone is being added to an “admin” group and shouldn’t be in that group. If the user shouldn’t have access at all, deny the request.

### How do you revoke access to an app approved in the AppStore?

If access was approved in error, please remove access to the app through standard methods (in the service provider and/or IdP).
