# Tines

## After this article

You will be able to connect Tines to Lumos to sync users, teams, and roles. This is a read-only integration.

## Capabilities

| Functionality | Type | Sync | Provision | Description |
| - | - | - | - | - |
| Users | Account | Yes | No | User accounts |
| Groups | Permission | Yes | No | Profiles |
| Roles | Permission | Yes | No | Roles |

Activity tracking is supported. The integration syncs each user's last login.

## Required plan and roles

* **Tines role:** you need access to your Tines tenant settings to create an API token. Use a **Tenant Owner** key type.
* **Authentication:** the integration uses an API key that gives read-only access to users, stories, and teams. You can regenerate or revoke it from your Tines settings at any time.

## Read-only access vs provisioning

**Is read-only possible?** Yes, and it's the only mode. Every capability row syncs but none provisions, so a connection to Tines is inherently read-only.

**What read-only requires.** A Tines API token with the Tenant Owner key type, generated from your tenant's Settings → API keys page. Follow the steps below. There's no separate credential or toggle to choose, since the integration only ever reads data.

**Watch out for.** The token secret is shown only once when created, so save it before leaving the page. If it's later revoked or regenerated in Tines, the Lumos connection breaks until you reconnect with the new token.

## Instructions

**Phase 1: Create an API token in Tines**

1. Go to the API keys page in the **Settings** section of your tenant, at `https://your-tenant.tines.com/settings/api_keys`.
2. Click **New** to create a token, select the **Tenant Owner** key type, and generate it.
3. A **Token Secret** appears. Save it securely, since it is only shown once.

**Phase 2: Connect in Lumos**

1. Click the Tines card in your Lumos integrations (reconnect an existing card or add a new one).
2. Enter the **API token** and **Base URL**.
3. Click **Connect**.

## API Endpoints Used

<Note>
  The API endpoints this integration uses are available to logged-in Lumos customers. [Log in](/login) to view them.
</Note>

## Troubleshooting

**Can't connect the integration.** Confirm the token is a Tenant Owner key and is not revoked, and that the Base URL matches your tenant. Regenerate the token in Tines if needed, remembering that the secret is only shown once.
