# Anthropic

## After this article

You will be able to connect Anthropic to Lumos to sync your Anthropic organization's users and their roles for visibility and Access Reviews.

## Capabilities

| Functionality | Type | Sync | Provision | Description |
| :- | :- | :- | :- | :- |
| Users | Account | Yes | No | User accounts |
| Roles | Permission | Yes | No | Organization roles |

## Required plan and roles

* **Anthropic requirement:** an **Admin API key** is required. This key type grants access to the Anthropic Admin API. Only organization admins can create Admin keys in the Anthropic Console.
* **Permission scoping:** this is a read-only integration. Lumos syncs users, pending invites, workspaces, and roles but doesn't provision or deprovision anything in Anthropic.

## Read-only access vs provisioning

**Is read-only possible?** Yes, and it's the only mode this connector supports. Anthropic connects with an Admin API key, and Lumos only calls read endpoints, so every connection syncs users, invites, workspaces, and roles without writing anything back to Anthropic.

**What read-only requires.** An Anthropic Admin API key, created by an organization admin from the Admin keys page in the Anthropic Console. Follow the steps below to generate and connect it.

**Watch out for.** The key must be an Admin API key, not a standard API key. Standard keys can't reach the `/organizations` endpoints Lumos uses. If the creating admin loses their organization admin role, or the key is revoked, the connection will stop working.

## Instructions

**Phase 1: Create an Admin API key in Anthropic**

1. Log in to the Anthropic account console.
2. Navigate to the **Admin keys** page.
3. Click **Create Admin Key** and generate the key.
4. Copy the key.

**Phase 2: Connect in Lumos**

1. Find the Anthropic card in your Lumos integrations (reconnect an existing card or add a new one).
2. Paste the key into the **Admin API Key** field.
3. Enter an **Organization Name**, your organization's name, used as a unique tenant identifier in Lumos (e.g. `My Organization`).
4. Click **Connect**.

## API Endpoints Used

<Note>
  The API endpoints this integration uses are available to logged-in Lumos customers. [Log in](/login) to view them.
</Note>

## Troubleshooting

**Connection fails with an authentication error.** Confirm the key is an **Admin API key** (created on the Admin keys page), not a standard API key. Standard keys can't access the `/organizations` Admin API endpoints.

**Key was valid but stops working.** Verify the Admin key hasn't been revoked in the Anthropic Console, and that the creating admin still has an active organization admin role.
